What changes the price
Four things that move the number.
Height
Raised decks need taller posts, bracing and more stairs. Second-story decks cost about 40% more per foot.
Shape
Curves, angles and L shapes take more cuts and framing than a simple rectangle.
Access
Tight side yards and steep slopes slow down digging and deliveries.
Old deck removal
Taking out an old deck adds $8 to $15 per sq ft, including disposal.
